School Uniform Money Saving Tips
Hi Everyone
Happy August 31st, you're almost through the summer holiday's and back to some structure and routine which I am sure lot's of people are excited for, I hope you all had a wonderful summer holiday and got to spend some quality time with your littles. Alongside the excitement for our little ones either starting school or if you have older children them going into a new year comes the cost that can sometimes be hugely impactful to the budget for most families and that is making sure your children are kitted out with all of the school uniform they may need to get them through the year. This can sometimes come at a massive cost which can sometime's cause anxiety about where people find that money, especially now more than ever. I hope today I can offer some helpful tips that I have learnt or had shared with me and I hope they help some of you in these times where more people need help and support than before.
1. Build a good community of parent friends
Since my daughter has started school I have built an amazing community of mum friends which has all started simply from speaking to each other in the playground. This has allowed me to form some great friendships and we also support each other with lot of things one such thing is uniform swaps, if things get to small for our little ones we will pass clothes around to the children who still fit in the smaller sizes and in turn that saves your parent friends some money. This type of creating a community will also give you a better perspective on the face that a lot of you are in a very similar position and having a good parent network is amazing to help you feel like you have support.
2. Use uniform from last year
If your child is going into a new school year and is at the same school as the year prior, they may still have some uniform that fit's them. Don't put pressure on yourself for your children to have to have brand new everything if they already have good quality and perfectly good clothes that still fit them from the year before, use it until it either does not fit any longer or is not in a good condition.
3. Speak to your child's school
Lot of school's take in school uniform donations and make these available to buy or give them away for free to families who are in need. If you feel like you are really struggling, do not be afraid to ask for help.
4. Look at local car boot sales
Lots of car boot sales that I have been to have had parents there selling lot's of great quality second hand school uniform and sometimes even for a matter of pence. On the flip side of this, if you are a parent of an older child is there anything you could do to donate or cheaply sell your child's old uniform within your local community to help.
5. Check you local Facebook market place
Market place is a go to for a lot of people to find bargains within their local communities so why not have a look on their for good quality second hand school uniform.
6. Look for a second hand school uniform centre in your local area
Lots of places across the country will have local charities or councils that have set up school uniform hubs. Near to where I live there has been one set up called Hive Portsmouth which can be found HERE this has been set up to help families in need in the local area and can really be a lifeline for some people. If you do not have one of these in your area, maybe you yourself if you are able to could look at setting one up to help yourself and to help others in your local community.
7. Shop the sales
When a supermarket or shop sale comes up make sure you are thinking in advance for your children's next sizes. If you see shoes for £3 but there is a while till they go up to that shoe size, try to protect your future self financially by being prepared and grabbing what you can whist it is reduced.
8. Create a parents group chat
Like I said in my first tip , creating a supportive community for yourself is key and it is vital now more than ever. You will enable yourself to be surround by people who are in a similar position to you and they may even have a few tricks up their sleeves that you haven't heard of before that could help you. You will also create a group that helps and supports each other during hard times and some of my mummy friends are the people I'm closest too. It is also lovely to create a friendship group of people that understand what you are going through. If you don't have a group set up with other parents, don't be afraid to start speaking to them or create your own group you may help a lot of people who are to worried to ask for help themselves.
hope some of these tips help and have a great rest of your week!
